Can you imagine a four-time-Tony-nominated actress like Tovah Feldshuh (Golda’s Balcony) starring in a well-reviewed Broadway production that is essentially pro-God and pro-life?? Don’t even try. Just go and see Irena’s Vow at the Walter Kerr Theatre. I saw it two nights ago and was stunned that this true story about a Catholic Polish woman who hides twelve Jews from the Nazis had been had been allowed to retain its pro-God and pro-life point of view. My Bonhoeffer book — due out in October! — obviously deals with the subject of Jews in Nazi Germany, so seeing it dealt with as artfully and truthfully as it was in this play was hugely encouraging, not to say very inspiring. At the end of the play, Irena’s daughter came out and answered audience questions. Amazing. Treat yourself to a night at the theater and go see Irena’s Vow.
