On Lincoln’s birthday (Feb. 12th), I had the honor of meeting Martin Luther King III (see below), and on February 4th — the birthday of Dietrich Bonhoeffer (who was very involved in the Harlem Black community during his year at Union) — I was the emcee for an AID for the World Gala at the Museum of Natural History. It was “An Evening with the Honorable Colin Powell”, who was very personable and humble — and best of all, laughed at my dumb jokes. The Chief of Staff to the President of Burundi was also there. His remarks were in French. I wasn’t sure what he said, but translated it as: “That was the best salad I’ve ever had in my life.” It was a great salad. But seriously, folks, AID for the World is an extraordinary organization, ever better than the salad. It’s led by my friend, Carl Keyes. Please check it out and, if you feel led to do so, write them a check. They are doing God’s work around the world. Here’s their website.
